Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu has no doubts: Oliver Bearman is destined to become a Formula 1 driver for Ferrari, likely as Lewis Hamilton’s replacement. This young British talent, part of Ferrari’s development program, is starting his season as a full-time driver, and his career is taking an interesting turn thanks to a loan deal with Haas.

Despite his young age, Oliver Bearman has shown remarkable maturity, earning attention and respect within the team. Ayao Komatsu highlighted Oliver Bearman’s approach, speed, and quality feedback as excellent, citing his performances during race weekends in Baku and Interlagos, where he outqualified former Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg.

Will Oliver Bearman succeed Lewis Hamilton?
Komatsu said he never doubted Oliver Bearman’s abilities since his debut with Haas at the 2023 Mexican GP. Responding to an Autosport question about Oliver Bearman as a future Ferrari driver, he stated: “Yes. He is a Ferrari driver, and we have him for two years, with the option of a third. If we do a good job and Ollie does a good job, there’s no reason why Ferrari can ignore him.”

The Haas team principal is eager to see how Oliver Bearman’s career progresses and plans to meet with Ferrari in February to discuss monitoring his development. “I'm sure Ferrari wants regular feedback,” Ayao Komatsu said. “I also want to provide them with our feedback because they've been a crucial part of his career.”

Oliver Bearman impressed the team during FP1 sessions in 2023 and 2024, earning his opportunity to drive for Haas after proving his worth. In 2024, he also replaced Carlos Sainz, who had to miss the Saudi Arabian GP due to appendicitis, finishing the race in seventh place. This exceeded expectations and earned him praise from experts and fans alike.
