Ferrari: new floor and more flexible wing for SF24 to challenge McLaren in Las Vegas

Ferrari is going all-in at Las Vegas: the Prancing Horse team is betting on the fast street circuit of Nevada's capital to close the 36-point gap to McLaren in the Constructors’ Championship. However, just yesterday, the FIA issued a new technical directive prohibiting metallic reinforcements on the skid block, forcing teams like Ferrari, which can set up their car with a ground-hugging ride height, to raise the vehicle, thereby losing downforce.
The Scuderia has arrived at the third-to-last race of the season with some modifications to the floor compared to the aerodynamic package that the Maranello team had introduced during their victory at the Italian GP. It seemed that only one updated floor would be available, to be tested during the night's free practice as a preview of a solution that might be useful for the 677, the car for the 2025 season.
However, according to Motorsport.com, if the new floor passes the back-to-back evaluation during free practice, it will be used during the race weekend and made available to both drivers. The updates involve the trailing edge of the floor's sidewalk, featuring a longer longitudinal wing with four metallic supports arranged differently.
The floor also changes near the blowing area: the final portion of the underbody, held in place by a brace, now features a more squared-off slot, whereas the previous design was curvilinear. The bracket connecting the two elements of the sidewalk has been removed, and a carbon tongue with an L-shape has reappeared, suspended from the floor, with a vertical flow diverter that channels air descending from the floor using a ramp with a double inclination.
Images from the pit lane suggest that Charles Leclerc will start the weekend with the SF-24 in its standard configuration, focusing on race setup, while Carlos Sainz will use the updated floor and conduct a comparative test before swapping setups to draw definitive conclusions.
For Las Vegas, Ferrari has opted for the lowest drag aerodynamic configuration, adopting the Monza rear wing, while the front wing has been adapted to the specifications first seen in Singapore. This version features a more extreme programmed deformation, achieved through the use of different materials and construction compared to the wing used at the Temple of Speed.
