Ferrari reportedly close to signing a current driver on F1 grid

With Ferrari junior Oliver Bearman moving to Haas next year and Robert Shwartzman joining Prema, the Maranello team finds itself without a reserve driver for the 2025 Formula 1 season. While Antonio Giovinazzi is an option, the Italian is committed to the WEC and cannot guarantee his availability for all race weekends.
For this reason, the Scuderia has decided to return to the market to select a driver who will support Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc next year. The role of the third driver has proven to be very important, even in the current season.
After Carlos Sainz suffered an appendicitis issue in Jeddah, Fred Vasseur relied on Oliver Bearman, who immediately demonstrated impressive speed. The British driver also returned to action at the Baku City circuit and Interlagos, driving Kevin Magnussen's Haas on those occasions.
Driver selected for 2025 Formula 1 championship
According to the latest rumors, Ferrari has identified Guanyu Zhou as the ideal candidate to serve as reserve driver starting in 2025. The Chinese driver is set to leave Sauber and currently does not have a seat for the upcoming season. "Formula 1 remains the priority, even if it means waiting a year," Guanyu Zhou stated after announcing his departure from Sauber.
From an economic perspective, Guanyu Zhou's selection would also allow Ferrari to strengthen ties with sponsors associated with the soon-to-be former Sauber driver.
The news has yet to be officially confirmed by Ferrari, but the general feeling is that the choice will indeed fall on the Chinese driver.
