Lewis Hamilton and the long wait to join the Maranello team
When the news broke on February 1st that Scuderia Ferrari had signed Lewis Hamilton for the 2025 and 2026 Formula 1 world championships, it came like a bolt from the blue. It was already known that the wait to see the seven-time Formula One world champion in red would be quite long. While the Italian side has shown significant competitiveness early in this first part of the 2024 Formula 1 season, winning at the Albert Park circuit in Australia with Carlos Sainz and on the streets of Monte Carlo in Monaco with Charles Leclerc, the same cannot be said for Lewis Hamilton, who is frustrated by recent disappointing results and internal competition with George Russell.

Frederic Vasseur has confidence
In a long interview with journalist James Allen on the Autosport YouTube channel, team principal Frederic Vasseur spoke about Lewis Hamilton’s arrival in Ferrari next season, focusing on the driver’s age – who will turn 40 next January 7th: “I am more than confident that he will be competitive because motivation makes the difference. Surely at 40, if you are not in a positive environment, you don’t have the feeling that you can win.” – the French manager pointed out.

Frederic Vasseur then continued: “Keeping motivation high after so many years is very difficult, but I am truly convinced that Lewis wants to have a central role at Ferrari and I have no doubt that he will be very motivated. I think it will also help that, knowing him for a long time, I will be able to help him integrate quickly. I am really convinced that Lewis will make a useful contribution on every front and the combination with Charles will be very good.” – Scuderia Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur concluded.
