F1 2025: A Tight Battle at the Top
The 2021 season was one of the most thrilling in Formula 1 history, not only because of the intense fight between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen but also because it marked the end of a technical cycle. Despite the Mercedes-Red Bull duopoly, the competition was closer, as evidenced by the eight different teams that made it to the podium (including the farcical Spa race), a rare feat when two teams are clearly stronger than the rest.
In 2025, a similar scenario could unfold, with the key difference being that four teams are now fighting for victories instead of just two. Meanwhile, the rest of the grid could occasionally interfere and challenge the frontrunners. However, according to Günther Steiner, the top contenders for 2025 are McLaren and Ferrari.
Gunther Steiner’s comments
“I see four teams close together again, just like last year,” said the South Tyrolean, who is currently working as an ambassador for the Miami Grand Prix. “My favorites remain Ferrari and McLaren. They were very strong at the end of last year, and I believe they have understood what their car needs to be fast. If I had to choose between the two, I'd say McLaren because they did a great job last season. I think they were very strong at the end of the year.” – the former Haas team principal pointed out with less than a week until the first round of the 2025 Formula 1 campaign, the Australian Grand Prix.
“Ferrari and McLaren also have strong and experienced driver lineups. Mercedes and Red Bull, on the other hand, each have a rookie. While Liam Lawson isn’t a complete newcomer, he hasn't done a full season yet. That makes things difficult because a rookie, no matter how talented, still has a lot to learn.” – Gunther Steiner concluded.
