Jeremy Clarkson, Adrian Newey, and the future of the engineer in Formula 1, but far from Ferrari. The British journalist and television presenter, well known to the public as part of the *Top Gear* (and later *The Grand Tour*) trio, seemed to have figured everything out back in July. Interviewed on the grid at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, he gave an important clue about the engineer’s future.

The saga has finally ended: Adrian Newey has chosen his future. He will work on the Aston Martin project, effectively becoming the head and director of a super team of top-tier engineers. The goal is to be competitive by 2026, fully leveraging the partnership with Honda and Aramco to build a car capable of bringing the championship to Silverstone.

The engineer’s signing with Lawrence Stroll’s team had been anticipated for a few weeks, but it still comes as a “surprise” when considering months of speculation and pro-Ferrari hints. Indeed, until the so-called “secret visit” to the new Aston Martin campus, Maranello seemed like the most realistic option, with the support of many authoritative voices in the paddock.

In this context, Jeremy Clarkson’s response to a Viaplay TV journalist went unnoticed: “Want an exclusive? – the Englishman jokingly asked on the grid at the British Grand Prix – I know Adrian Newey is looking for a house in Oxfordshire, not in Maranello!”

We don't know if the engineer ended up finding a home in Oxfordshire, just a few kilometers from Silverstone (which, however, is in Northamptonshire), but it's clear that Clarkson was absolutely right: no Maranello for Adrian Newey, although he did indeed have discussions with Ferrari, without reaching a mutual agreement.
