According to a recent report from the Italian daily newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, the 2023 Ferrari Formula 1 car will not represent a clean break from the F1-75 challenger, whose philosophy and many distinctive features it will keep.

The aerodynamics will be a development of the current forms, maintaining the concept of the sides hollowed out in the upper part (bathtub sidepods) and of the horizontal air intakes for cooling the internal components under the bodywork. The most pronounced differences for the 2023 Ferrari single-seater as compared to the 2022 F1 car will be concentrated on the floor, which will undergo a profound evolution, the result of the vast amount of data collected and the consequence of the changes imposed by the Technical Directive 39.

Aerodynamics aside, during the 2022 Formula One season, there has been intense redesign work at Scuderia Ferrari on some of the power unit components at the origin of the technical failures. The engine department in Maranello, led by Enrico Gualtieri, revised some quality control procedures. By running engines on the dyno, the “stress analysis” were used to analyze the operation of components such as the cylinder head. As explained by ‘La Gazzetta dello Sport’, teams are allowed to modify components for the sake of reliability, despite the power unit development freeze. A better reliability means fewer risks and more horsepower can be squeezed out. Exactly what Scuderia Ferrari was not able to do for most of the 2022 Formula 1 championship, having to run with weakened power unit mappings.
