Lewis Hamilton in Ferrari: a new challenge for Riccardo Adami as well

A new partnership
The arrival of Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari will be particularly intriguing as the British driver adapts to the new technical figures he will encounter in Maranello. After spending the last 12 years at Mercedes, “guided” by the voice of his long-time race engineer Peter Bonnington, the seven-time world champion will now have to adjust to a new “guardian angel” supporting him from the pit wall: the 51-year-old Riccardo Adami from Brescia. As previously reported during the 2024 season, Riccardo Adami will take on this role. Hamilton will be the third driver Adami works with at Ferrari, following his collaborations with Sebastian Vettel and Carlos Sainz.
Sebastian Vettel's recommendation
The German driver played a significant role in Riccardo Adami's F1 career and his move to Ferrari. During Sebastian Vettel’s season and a half at Toro Rosso, he was supported by Adami, who had joined Minardi in 2002 shortly after graduating from university. The unforgettable Monza 2008 victory, Vettel’s first career win, was also a defining moment for Riccardo Adami. The pair reunited at Ferrari at the start of the 2015 season, and Adami has remained on the Prancing Horse's pit wall ever since.
Chasing the title
After Sebastian Vettel’s departure at the end of the 2020 season, Riccardo Adami took over as race engineer for the newly arrived Carlos Sainz. Before that, during his time with the Faenza-based team, Riccardo Adami worked with drivers such as Vitantonio Liuzzi, Sébastien Buemi, and Daniel Ricciardo. Hamilton’s move to Ferrari now presents Riccardo Adami with an opportunity to aim for his first World Championship title—a goal that has eluded him throughout his career, including during the lengthy title campaigns alongside Vettel, which were ultimately thwarted by Hamilton himself.
