Lewis Hamilton's Ferrari debut is fast approaching: where, when and with which car?

With the World Championship winding down, 2025 is rapidly approaching, and with it, the date for Lewis Hamilton's debut driving a Ferrari F1 car. Where and when will the #44's first day behind the wheel of a Scuderia car take place? Team Principal Frederic Vasseur gives an update.

With three races remaining in the 2024 Formula 1 season, there are only a few more events before the winter break and the preparations for 2025. The coming year is full of expectations and curiosity, driven in part by Lewis Hamilton's arrival at Ferrari under Frederic Vasseur's leadership.

The British champion will transition from Mercedes’ silver to Ferrari's red, but the change won't happen immediately after the Abu Dhabi GP. In recent weeks, there had been speculation about seeing Sir Lewis behind the wheel of a Ferrari during the post-season tests, but that won't be the case. Mercedes has scheduled some final promotional commitments for the seven-time world champion on the day of the Emirati tests, in collaboration with Petronas.

Therefore, Abu Dhabi won't be the location for Lewis Hamilton's debut with Ferrari. Fans will have to wait until 2025, but Frederic Vasseur is not concerned, as he told Autosport: "I don't think he will need too many hours to settle in. He has the experience to be fast right away, or at least very soon." – the French manager pointed out.

Lewis Hamilton's First Day at Fiorano with the F1-75?
With the Abu Dhabi possibility ruled out, Lewis Hamilton's first day with Ferrari could take place at Fiorano at the start of 2025, driving the Ferrari F1-75.

The rules around TPCs, "Tests of Previous Cars," which now allow teams to use 2022 cars, work in Ferrari's favor. "We will do one or two days of TPC, along with the Bahrain tests: it will be enough," explained Fred Vasseur, revealing part of the Maranello team’s plans to welcome the seven-time Formula 1 world champion.
