Lewis Hamilton and his emotions at Ferrari
These are special days for Lewis Hamilton. Despite being accustomed to Formula 1 and having seen it all in nearly 20 years at the highest level, the emotions he has experienced over the past month (his now-famous photo in front of Enzo Ferrari's house dates back to January 20) are hard to put into words. To truly understand them, one must have the privilege of experiencing them from within. The seven-time world champion admitted as much during the press conference held right after the Fiorano shakedown and filming day.
Lewis Hamilton's comments
“I was told there was a lot of passion within the team, but I think once you’re inside, it's something even more special than you could ever imagine. And I believe you can't truly know it until you're here, living it,” Sir Lewis began.
“I'm still acclimating to a completely new car and an entirely new way of working. Everyone in this team has been incredibly supportive and has made me feel welcome. I truly feel at home—I know I'm exactly where I'm meant to be,” he continued. “I think we just have to take it step by step. It doesn't all have to happen in one day. But, of course, we have a goal, and everyone is working hard to achieve it.”
The warmth of the Tifosi, which Lewis Hamilton has felt since his first day as a Ferrari driver in Italy, doesn't improve lap times, but it serves as the perfect foundation for a team chasing a dream 18 years in the making. Hamilton knows this affection must be repaid with daily dedication: “There is a huge amount of work to do—the team knows it, and I know it. As for the rest, it's too early to say how the year will go. What we do know is that the fight among the top teams will be intense. We haven't seen the other cars yet, and we haven't been on track. What I have seen is that having the entire team under one roof is a unique experience, something I've never had before. Having a track right outside the factory is truly incredible. Being able to roll out our car and immediately put it on the track with Ferrari, while also learning about the history of this place, has been an amazing experience.” – the seven-time Formula 1 world champion concluded.
