It may not seem like it today, but the Japanese Grand Prix—the third round of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship—is just around the corner. Or almost.

For this reason, the event organizers have been working tirelessly over the past few weeks to ensure that the Suzuka circuit is in the best possible condition for race weekend.

The work was carried out during the winter when all motorsport categories were on a break between seasons.

Among the interventions, in addition to the installation of new curbs along the entire track to discourage drivers from exceeding track limits, a new asphalt surface was laid in the first sector.

This is a significant move, as the new surface should ensure better water drainage while also providing a significant increase in grip for the cars.

This is the most demanding sector of the track, so the resurfacing should not only enhance safety (with the goal of preventing dangerous puddles from forming in case of rain) but also, through increased grip, offer the possibility of improving car performance.

The resurfacing was completed in recent hours, as evidenced by photos published by the circuit’s owners. In addition to the selection of sharper curbs—very similar to those already in use at the Formula 1 Qatar Grand Prix—to prevent drivers from exploiting every last millimeter of track, infrastructure updates were also made.

Among these, it is worth noting that the FIA stewards’ control room has been renovated, with the installation of new screens to provide a clearer view of track events through images captured by the circuit’s cameras.
