Formula 1 announced today that the Italian Grand Prix will stay on the calendar through 2031 as part of a six-year extension of the existing agreement, which was valid until 2025. This is significant news for motorsport in Italy, ensuring that F1 cars will race at Monza for years to come.

Built in 1922, Monza – also known as the Temple of Speed – has hosted a Grand Prix every year since the inauguration of the World Championship in 1950, except for 1980, when the circuit was closed for renovation. Located northeast of the historic city of Milan, one of the world's cultural and fashion capitals, the 5.8 km circuit boasts one of the fastest laps on the Formula 1 calendar, with drivers on full throttle for 80% of the lap. In 2020, Monza was the scene of the fastest lap in F1 history in terms of average speed, when Lewis Hamilton claimed pole position for the 2020 Italian Grand Prix with a qualifying time of just 1:18.887 and an average speed of 264.362 km/h.

Formula 1 continues to experience strong growth in Italy, both in terms of broadcasts, which garnered a cumulative audience of 183.3 million in 2023, and online, where social media followers grew by 16% last season.

Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1

"I am delighted that the Italian Grand Prix will remain on the calendar until 2031. Monza is at the heart of Formula 1's history, and the atmosphere there every year is unique, with fans gathering in large numbers to cheer for Ferrari and the drivers. Recent improvements to the circuit's infrastructure and planned investments demonstrate a strong commitment to the long-term future of Formula 1 in Italy, and I want to thank the President of the Automobile Club d'Italia, the Italian government, and the Lombardy region for their continued passion and dedication to our sport. I also want to pay tribute to our incredible fans across the country who support Formula 1 with such enthusiasm."
