Possible return of Carlos Sainz to Ferrari? Fred Vasseur's surprising response about future

In the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz concluded his adventure with Ferrari, which began in 2021, and participated in post-season tests with Williams. However, Frederic Vasseur has not dismissed the possibility of the Spaniard returning to Maranello.

In the final race of the 2024 Formula 1 season at Abu Dhabi, Carlos Sainz secured his 25th podium with Ferrari, marking the end of his four seasons with the Scuderia. For the Spanish driver, the recently concluded season was relatively positive, considering he already knew before the start that he would be replaced by Lewis Hamilton in 2025.

The seven-time world champion will take Carlos Sainz's place alongside Charles Leclerc but will begin his journey with Ferrari at the age of 40. It won't be long before Maranello finds itself needing to fill a seat again. It's not out of the question that the choice could fall on Carlos Sainz, who is now preparing to debut with Williams.

Here's how Fred Vasseur commented on this scenario, speaking to DAZN about the possibility of seeing Carlos Sainz back at Ferrari: "We've already talked about it a couple of times. This is a very small world. There are only ten teams [eleven from 2026, editor's note] and only six or seven top-tier drivers." – the French manager pointed out.

"You never know what might happen in the future, but most of us—both Carlos on his side and us on ours—need to focus on our own projects. We don't know what will happen in 2027, 2028, 2029…" – the Ferrari team principal concluded.
