Red Bull hits out at Ferrari and McLaren: "We have won thanks to their mediocre work"

Despite challenges during the season and facing a much stronger Ferrari and McLaren, Red Bull managed to secure the drivers' title with Max Verstappen. Now, following their championship victory and the evident difficulty of competing for the constructors' title, the Austrian team is setting its goals for the next season.
Pierre Wache, Red Bull's technical director, explained why he isn't feeling confident about the upcoming season. "I'm not feeling confident about next season; the others seem much faster than us, so I don't know what we'll be able to achieve next year."
However, this lack of confidence could actually be a strength for Red Bull. "If I think I've made it and have maximum confidence, I no longer focus 100% on performing well. This lack of confidence, on the other hand, pushes us to work even harder to try to improve," Pierre Wache added.
Ferrari faltered in 2022, and McLaren arrived late in 2024
Pierre Wache then clarified the situation over the past few seasons, where Red Bull, particularly in 2022 and 2024, didn't expect to dominate. In 2022, Ferrari appeared to be the strongest team during the first part of the season—until they collapsed.
In 2024, Red Bull started very strong, albeit unexpectedly, while McLaren only emerged as a contender after Miami. This highlights how Red Bull's strength has also been due to the shortcomings of rivals, who either struggled to find their footing or lost it along the way.
"In '22, we didn't start the season with the fastest car because Ferrari's start was very strong. Then the same happened this year, where we knew we weren't strong, but we were still ahead. It's not that we did a better job; it was more because others did a poor job at certain points. McLaren started late this season, and Ferrari too. In the end, it's not our fault," Pierre Wache concluded.
