Could Netflix already be working on *Drive to Survive 8*? The seventh season of the sports docuseries debuted on March 7 on the streaming platform, recounting the unpredictable 2024 Formula 1 championship.
From Lewis Hamilton's major announcement about joining Ferrari to the Horner scandal, *Drive to Survive 7* focused not only on the drama off-track but also on what happened on it. The fierce Red Bull-McLaren rivalry, with Max Verstappen and Lando Norris battling each other, ignited a thrilling season where, in the end, a third party benefited: Ferrari.
The Maranello team found itself competitive on multiple occasions, even contending for the Constructors’ Championship in Abu Dhabi—ultimately won by the papaya-colored Woking team.
The 2024 championship is told through ten episodes summarizing 24 drama-filled races. Netflix's audience loves adrenaline, but more than anything, they appreciate "spicy" stories. The goal of *Formula 1: Drive to Survive* has always been to listen to viewers' preferences and give them what they want.
The docuseries' executive producer, James Gay-Rees, spoke to *The Hollywood Reporter* about the possibility of *Drive to Survive 8* on Netflix.
"We hope to start the eighth season. Some shows have had 20, 30 seasons. Some things go on forever, so who knows? But yes, we'll definitely do it. It's like our eldest child. It holds a special place in the production's heart." However, in an entertainment world where things can change suddenly and unpredictably, Gay-Rees remains cautious: "You can't count on anything right now."
As for Formula 1, the executive producer already has preferences on who the season's main characters will be—and maybe even for *Drive to Survive 8*:
"It will be fascinating to see how Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton will perform. It will be fascinating to see how [Carlos] Sainz and [Alexander] Albon will do. Only McLaren has kept the same driver pairing. So wherever you look, there are new combinations," he told *THR*.
"Liam Lawson is a really sharp guy. He's the number two, but he'll give it a shot. There are so many rookies coming in… I didn't get the impression they were just there to fill the grid. I think they're all there [on merit], given how much the sport has grown and how much attention it's getting. There will be some heartwarming storylines."
