Former Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz, during a media session, discussed Ferrari and its new driver pairing of Leclerc and Hamilton. In February 2024, news of Lewis Hamilton’s move to the Maranello team made headlines worldwide. Nearly a year later, the British driver has officially joined the Scuderia.
After Ferrari decided not to renew his contract, Carlos Sainz had to evaluate other offers to continue racing in F1. The project that impressed and convinced him the most was Williams‘. The Grove-based team, after a season marked by numerous crashes and lineup changes, is ready to bounce back.
Following McLaren, Williams also unveiled its new car. On Valentine's Day, the team presented the FW47 at the Silverstone circuit. On this occasion, drivers Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz completed several laps in the new car.
Carlos Sainz’s thoughts
During the past season, Ferrari proved to have a competitive car, at least in the fight for the Constructors’ Championship. Carlos Sainz is well aware of this and, for this reason, considers the Scuderia one of the favorites for the 2025 title. However, the Spanish driver does not rule out the possibility of seeing his former teammate Charles Leclerc triumph: "I can only say that when I left Ferrari, I felt that both the team and Charles were ready to fight for the World Championship."
According to Carlos Sainz, Lewis Hamilton could be an asset for Ferrari, but everything will depend on his ability to adapt to a new working method and a new car. If the British driver manages to do so, he will certainly be among the title contenders: "When I judge based on results, his background, and what he has achieved, I can only say there is a high chance he will be competitive at Ferrari."
