The first race of the 2025 World Superbike season went as expected for the Ducati's, but they missed out on a podium lockout.

Nicolo Bulega kick-starts his 2025 title campaign as he claims a sensational victory in the opening race. The Italian dominated proceedings and has not been beaten in any session throughout the weekend.

BMW spoiled the Ducati party at Phillip Island after Toprak Razgatlioglu finished in second place. However, he was 4.811 seconds behind Bulega and was out of the battle for victory from the word go.

Alvaro Bautista was back at the front as he ended the first race of the season in third place. The Spaniard completed a double podium for the Aruba.it Racing - Ducati squad.

The top independent rider on Saturday was Danilo Petrucci, who ended Race One in fourth. The Italian scrapped hard with the riders around him but was not able to challenge for the podium.

At one point in Race One, Scott Redding did lead a World Superbike race for a corner. However, the British rider missed out on a podium but was back at the front as he ended the day in fifth.

Andrea Iannone dealt with technical issues throughout the opening stages of the race. After his pitstop, the Italian was back to his best and came back through the order to a sixth-place finish.

The first non-Ducati or BMW rider in Race One was Andrea Locatelli on the Yamaha R1. The Italian has been on the podium in the past at Phillip Island, but the Japanese manufacturer has struggled this weekend.

Bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team could not challenge for the top five in their first race, but both riders were in the top ten. Alex Lowes took the KB998 Rimini to eighth place and Axel Bassani was right behind him in ninth.

British rider, Sam Lowes, completed the top ten on his ELF Marc VDS Racing Ducati.

The remaining two British riders were outside of the top ten in the opening race of the season. In his first World Superbike race as a Motocorsa rider, Ryan Vickers finished in 13th place. Tarran Mackenzie finished in 16th place and was the final finisher across the line.
