MBM Motorsports planning to enter 2025 Daytona 500 UPDATE

UPDATE: Carl Long updated fans on the team’s plans for 2025 and his thoughts on Daytona 500 entries in a Facebook post prior to Christmas.

“We only have 1 race committed with Chad Finchum in Texas with Hart HVAC. We are discussing a few other races depending on NASCAR approval of some drivers. It seems we are at the bottom of the list when funded drivers are looking at organizations to pair up with. Lots are looking for a Dale Jr type team and minimal $ (champagne taste, beer budget). NASCAR has tightened up its approval process over the last few years, adding competitiveness to its criteria. It takes really good drivers to qualify these days.”

“We know the big money full season deals for Xfinity go to others, so we did Cup and Truck races last year to fill out our schedule. We ran in 15 or so Cup races last year and plan on about 20 this year.”
“Our 20 race Cup schedule will start at Bowman Gray. The races we want to run are a combination of driver-based sponsors and MBM sponsors. We expect the return of Josh Bilicki and Chad Finchum at a few races. Garrett Smithley, Timmy Hill, and David Starr also could be in the #66. We are speaking to others not mentioned as well.”
“Daytona 500 has no driver or sponsor signed at this time. It appears there will be 10 cars for 4 spots. Here is what I think on the open cars:
66 MBM (Ford)
78 BJ McLeod (Chevy)
44 NY (Chevy)
84 Jimmie Johnson (Toyota)
62 Beard (Chevy)
15? RWR (Ford)
— ? Truex (Toyota)
33 RCR (Chevy)
50 TMT? (Chevy)
— H Castroneves?? (Chevy)”

ORIGINAL POST (11-18-2024): MBM Motorsports plans to enter February’s Daytona 500, team owner Carl Long stated over the weekend on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

“We are definitely going to do the Daytona 500,” Long said. “The car that we had at Martinsville, we’ve already tore it down and putting it back together and trying to maximize what we need to do for Daytona.”

Long added that MBM has a contract in place to lease an engine from Roush Yates Engines.

MBM fielded a car in 13 races during the 2024 season with six drivers splitting time in the No. 66 car. Josh Bilicki scored the team’s best finish, 28th, at the Chicago Street Race.
