Winter is upon us, but now is the perfect time to look back at the 2024 World Superbike Championship. BSN brings you our Top 10 World Superbike Riders of the Year.

Coming in at Number Ten is... Iker Lecuona!

10th:Iker Lecuona
Team:Team HRC
Motorcycle:Honda CBR1000RR
Overall Classification:12th
Points:134
Best Result:3rd [Round 11, Estoril]

A third season in World Superbikes was another difficult year for Iker Lecuona (and Honda) but at the end of the year, Lecuona was able to show his potential.

Iker Lecuona has had a rough time since arriving in World Superbikes in 2022. The Spaniard has been with the least competitive manufacturer during his time in the Championship.

Despite not being the top Honda rider in the 2024 World Superbike standings we believe he was the best rider on the Honda CBR1000RR-R this season. The Japanese manufacturer had not had a World Superbike podium since Race Two at the Indonesian Round in 2023, but Lecuona changed that in 2024.

The Spaniard was the only Honda rider to venture onto a World Superbike podium in 2024 as he finished third in Round 11 at Estoril.

We admit that one podium and 12th in the Championship does not sound very impressive. However, Lecuona missed seven races in 2024 and scored 134 points, three less than his teammate who participated in every race.

Lecuona's season picked up in Round Eight at Magny-Cours when he finished inside the top ten in all three races. In the next 11 races, the 20-year-old was inside the top five in four races and in the top ten in five other races.

The 2025 season will be a make-or-break year for the young Spaniard. His HRC contract will end at the end of next season and he will need a strong year if he wants to move to a more competitive garage in 2026.
