The first car from Chinese brand Leapmotor in Australia is a mid-size electric SUV cheaper than models in the size class below, starting from less than $50,000.

  • Tesla Model Y space for BYD Atto 3 money
  • Two variants, Style and Design
  • Priced from $45,888 before on-road costs

The 2025 Leapmotor C10 will promise Tesla Model Y space for BYD Atto 3 money when customer deliveries begin in Australia next month.

The C10 electric SUV from Leapmotor – a Chinese car brand backed by Stellantis, the parent company of Jeep, Ram and Peugeot – will be priced from $45,888 plus on-road costs for the entry-level Style grade.

A better-equipped Design model will be available for $49,888 plus on-road costs, adding larger wheels, heated and ventilated seats, and more.

It is more than $10,000 cheaper than the most affordable Tesla Model Y – which starts from $55,900 plus on-roads – and a similar amount less expensive than the just-released Kia EV5 (from $56,770 drive-away).

The RRP is closer to a BYD Atto 3 – a size smaller than the Model Y or EV5 – which starts from $44,499 plus on-road costs for the Standard and its 345km range.

The Atto 3 Extended – with a larger battery good for 420km of claimed driving range, matching the Leapmotor – is priced from $47,499.

Australia is one of the developed global markets Leapmotor is expanding into with the help of Stellantis, with the C10 to be followed by the smaller B10 next year.

Powering the Leapmotor C10 is a 160kW electric motor driving the rear wheels, fed by a 69.9kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery claimed to deliver 420km of WLTP range, and a 30 to 80 per cent fast charge in 30 minutes.

Standard features in the C10 Style include 18-inch alloys, LED headlights, a 14.6-inch touchscreen, 10.25-inch instrument display, dual-zone climate control, panoramic glass roof, 12-speaker stereo and a suite of safety technology.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be added next year, but it will only be for newly-built examples that are fitted with different computer processors – rather than as a software update for cars already delivered.

Features added by the Design variant include 20-inch wheels, leather-look upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and a power-operated tailgate.

Premium paint is the only option, at $990 for all colours except white.

Leapmotor cars will be covered by a seven-year/160,000km vehicle warranty and eight-year/160,000km high-voltage battery warranty.

The 2025 Leapmotor C10 is due to formally arrive in dealers in November 2024, the locations of which are also set to be announced next month, prior to the first arrivals.

Customers who order and take delivery of a C10 by 31 March 2025 will receive one year of free Chargefox public fast charging.
