More BMW buyers than ever opted for high performance models from its M division in 2024, setting both global and Australian sales records.

BMW's high performance M division posted world record sales in 2024, with a new best ever result in Australia contributing to the global milestone.

A record 206,582 BMW M cars and SUVs were sold in 2024, up from 202,530 in 2023 when it sold more than 200,000 vehicles for the first time.

Almost one-in-ten (9.4 per cent) of all BMWs sold globally in 2024 was an M car – also a new record – led by the battery-electric BMW i4 M50, its best seller for the third year in a row.

The BMW M2 posted the most growth at 64 per cent, while the next-best improver was the BMW M3 Touring at 57 per cent.

In Australia, a record 5631 M division vehicles were sold in 2024 – a year-on-year increase of 15 per cent, making up 21.4 per cent of the brand's total sales, which were also at record levels.

The M2 was the best-selling M-car in Australia, with sales up 83 per cent to 876 units compared to 479 in 2023.

Model updates including facelifts for a number of models – including the M2, M3 and M4 – contributed to the ongoing success in 2024.

Beyond the M division, the BMW 2 Series was the best-selling sports car in Australia, heading off the Subaru BRZ and Ford Mustang.

Australia was chosen for the international reveal of the 2025 BMW M3 CS Touring – which joins the M3 CS sedan and M4 CS coupe in local showrooms – ahead of this weekend's Bathurst 12 Hour endurance race.

The covers were pulled off the M3 CS Touring at Mount Panorama, Bathurst, ahead of its arrival in local showrooms in mid-2025.

In addition to the M3 CS Touring debut, BMW has a strong presence at the event with course cars and two high profile entries, with Valentino Rossi part of its formidable driver line-up racing BMW M4 GT3s.

The M3 CS Touring follows the plug-in hybrid V8 M5 Touring – with Touring BMW-speak for 'wagon' – which is set to arrive in local showrooms in the first quarter of 2025.

An all-new BMW 3 Series is set to arrive in 2027 – with electric versions using the ‘Neue Klasse’ architecture which first be used on the 2026 BMW iX3 SUV.

A new M3 is expected in 2028 which will also include both electric and petrol-powered versions.
