Hyundai is hurriedly preparing a successor to the popular Palisade. Here's what we think it'll look like.

A successor to the current first-generation Hyundai Palisade large SUV is just around the corner and is expected for a local showroom arrival in 2025. But, like its smaller Santa Fe sibling, will look vastly different to the current model and is due to adopt hybrid engine technology.

Various spy photos captured over past months point towards boxy Range Rover-esque styling for the front and the rear, while a new hybrid powertrain is all-but-confirmed to replace the ageing 3.8-litre non-turbo V6 petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engine options – at least in Australia.

Here's all the information – as we know it – about the next-generation Hyundai Palisade.

What engine will power the new Hyundai Palisade?

According to South Korean publication ETNews, the previous-generation 3.8-litre petrol V6 is expected to be replaced by a 3.5-litre turbocharged petrol V6, a derivative of what's already used in Genesis luxury models.

Meanwhile, the 2.2-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder will reportedly be dropped in favour of a new 2.5-litre petrol-electric hybrid engine.

Hyundai Australia chief operating officer John Kett told Drive a hybrid engine option for the next-generation Hyundai Palisade might have to be an all-out replacement rather than an additional powertrain option, given the advent of new emissions regulations.

"[A hybrid] may need to be a replacement [of diesel and petrol engines for the next Palisade], given the restrictions on [the New Vehicle Emissions Standard]," said Kett.

"So I think all the brands are going to have to reinvent it, or follow it to some degree. I mean, we can’t say anything about the future powertrains for Palisade, but you’d think it would make sense given the way those regulations are going to hit us, as of next year.

The looming New Vehicle Emissions Standard (NVES) has forced Hyundai's hand to introduce more hybrid options within its model range.

At the launch of the new Hyundai Santa Fe earlier in 2024, Hyundai opted for an all-hybrid model line-up. However, a turbocharged petrol engine option will be added in the future.

Similarly, a hybrid powertrain option was added to the Hyundai Tucson medium-sized SUV mid-way through the year.

"We have to be super conscious of looking for powertrain alternatives that meet those emissions [targets]," a Hyundai spokesperson added.

"But in doing that, still meet the needs of consumers in terms of how those vehicles will be driven.

"And that’s going to be top of mind to us, and I think as we get closer to the end of this year, or certainly early next year, we can be clear in what form that will take, across our portfolio."

When will the new Hyundai Palisade arrive in Australia?

According to Korean Car Blog, production of the next-generation Hyundai Palisade is due to commence in December 2024.

Additionally, it's reported that Hyundai will begin with European deliveries in the first half of next year and North American sales in the second half.

Australian timing is less clear, though it's expected that the new Palisade will make its way Down Under for a showroom arrival at some point in 2025.

What will the new Hyundai Palisade look like?

Spy photos of pre-production cars show the new Hyundai Palisade will adopt boxier styling than before, with specific design cues borrowed from the wider Hyundai portfolio – such as the new Hyundai Santa Fe.

The above renders illustrated byartist Theottle show a tall glasshouse with contrasting C-pillar and window supports, while unintegrated roof rails sit atop the roof. Squared-off wheel arches accentuate new wheel designs.

As before, the new Hyundai Palisade will feature a prominent front grille beset by a pair of wide headlights. However, three-bar horizontal headlight signatures are expected to feature alongside vertical indicators and daytime running lights.

Several design cues are reminiscent of the third-generation (L322) Range Rover – the glasshouse, the side profile, and the rear end, which appears to adopt long, vertical tail-lights.

The next Hyundai Palisade is expected to be underpinned by a new platform with a longer wheelbase, allowing the new car to better compete with its large SUV rivals such as the Honda Pilot and Toyota Grand Highlander in the United States.

Hyundai's new infotainment system, ccNC, will feature in the next Hyundai Palisade in addition to Hyundai's semi-autonomous driving software, Highway Driving Assist.

Previous spy shots show dual 12.3-inch displays within the dashboard and a steering column-mounted gear selector, similar to the current Santa Fe.

The 2025 Hyundai Palisade is expected to be revealed before the end of the year, ahead of an Australian arrival sometime in 2025.
