Attacks on Ferrari's 2025 lineup continue: it's Red Bull team principal Christian Horner's turn

Once again, this is the central topic of 2024. It will likely remain a focal point throughout the first part of the next Formula 1 season. Hamilton’s move to Ferrari in 2025 is the most celebrated yet simultaneously the most criticized decision by fans and insiders alike. Christian Horner has now weighed in, making his stance unequivocally clear.
The situation is already well-defined. The most anticipated moment for everyone is the debut of the seven-time world champion in red, set to take place in mid-January at the Fiorano circuit. According to leaks, the chosen date will likely be January 21 or 22, with Lewis Hamilton‘s first Ferrari expected to be the F1-75 from 2022.
Shortly after this initial run, there will be official presentations and subsequent tests at the Bahrain circuit. This will be the first real opportunity to form judgments, although they may be premature. However, many key figures in the F1 paddock, including various team principals, remain highly critical of Frederic Vasseur‘s decision.
Could this stem from the realization that Ferrari will have the strongest lineup among all 10 teams? Possibly. Looking at the top four teams, Red Bull and Mercedes will both feature a rookie driver, which could represent the “weak link” in their respective teams. Meanwhile, McLaren, which like Ferrari is retaining its lineup, has two young drivers without the experience of a seven-time world champion.
What fuels all this criticism remains unclear. Among the latest voices is Red Bull team principal Christian Horner, who commented:
“2025 won't be easy for Ferrari. From my perspective, Hamilton and Leclerc will take points away from each other. In contrast, we, as we have done for years, are always clear with our drivers: there is a first and a second driver. Max Verstappen is No. 1.”
The hierarchy at the Milton Keynes team has always been explicit and uncompromising. So far, no driver paired with Max Verstappen, aside from Daniel Ricciardo in 2016 and 2017, has managed to match the pace of the now four-time world champion.
