A few days ago, we reported that Mattia Binotto was against bringing Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari. The former team principal of the Scuderia had stated that if he were still in charge, he would never have signed the seven-time world champion. However, he accepts and respects the British driver's decision to join an iconic team that has made history in Formula 1.

In an interview with Marca during a sports event in Spain, Carlos Sainz spoke about his recent races with Ferrari, his expectations with Williams, and, of course, Mattia Binotto's comments.

"We've made progress, winning more races, getting more points and poles, but clearly Red Bull was superior at the beginning. And now there's McLaren…,” the Spaniard explained, discussing Ferrari's performance. “Ferrari is waiting, without being the fastest, but we're still in the fight. And, barring mistakes, we can win races. We'll see if we can win another one in this last part of the season.” – he pointed out.

"These have been four wonderful years. Being a Ferrari driver, racing for this team, my first wins, poles, and podiums as a driver for Maranello… I will never forget being a Ferrari driver for the rest of my life. But my career is long. Who knows if our paths will cross again," he said, leaving the door open for the future.

And on Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari? "He and Charles Leclerc are two great drivers, they will surely have fun. Mattia Binotto says he wouldn't have taken Lewis? I don't get involved in these matters. On other people’s opinions and decisions I try not to get involved, I obviously have my own opinion but I keep it to myself and one day, over dinner, I'll tell you," he replied to the Marca journalist.

Winning one last race with Ferrari or a first one with Williams? "I'm very focused on the short term, and a win as soon as possible with Ferrari is what I would choose. But nothing would excite me more than winning one with Williams. It would be the sign of a correct decision, that I managed to turn the project into something that works, something capable of winning. And winning with them would be something equally or more important in my sports career." – Carlos Sainz concluded.
