Carlos Sainz studies 'new' Spa track: "Different track, much more grip" | Belgian GP

Encouraging Race Pace

Carlos Sainz finished in fifth place in today’s FP2 for the 2024 Belgian GP. Compared to his teammate Charles Leclerc – who was about three-tenths ahead in the single lap – he gave a significantly better impression in the race pace simulation. The Spanish Ferrari driver was among the most consistent and admitted he focused particularly on this aspect today.

So Much Grip, Watch the Tires

“This year, the track is really different from previous years due to the new asphalt,” commented the #55 in red. “We had to adapt the car to these new grip conditions and the new bumps, but overall there is much more grip.”

This condition, however, can have a significant impact on tire wear: “We need to keep tire degradation under control, and the race simulation was an important part of our program today. Tomorrow we will try to focus on maximizing the package we have and qualifying as far up the grid as possible,” concluded the winner of this season’s Australian Grand Prix.
