Despite being aided by the heated contact between Lando Norris and Max Verstappen in the final stages of the race which was held at the 4.318-kilometre Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Carlos Sainz managed to secure an excellent finish in the Austrian Grand Prix, achieving his sixth podium of the 2024 Formula 1 season behind Oscar Piastri and the winner George Russell, who celebrated his second career victory.

No rush to decide
A solid performance by the Spaniard, despite the bouncing issues on the SF24 with the updates introduced in Spain, allowed him to significantly close in on his teammate in the drivers’ standings, with Charles Leclerc effectively ousted from the fight for the top positions due to his contact at the start with Oscar Piastri’s McLaren.

In the meantime, the Madrid native continues to hold the driver market in check, with Williams reportedly displeased with Alpine’s interference in their negotiations after agreeing on a four-year contract with an exit clause at the end of 2026. As a result, Williams is said to have shifted focus to other profiles, with Valtteri Bottas and Esteban Ocon back in contention for the seat that Logan Sargeant will vacate at the end of the current season.

Asked once again about his future after the Austrian Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz replied: “As I said before, I certainly won’t feel this pressure on a Sunday afternoon after a podium that we want to enjoy. I think sometimes, as George said, we take for granted being on one of these podiums, celebrating, wearing a Ferrari suit, and I thought: ‘Try to enjoy this moment because who knows when the next time will be in the future.'” – the Spaniard pointed out.

“So, as much as there are teams that are nervous or pressuring me, it’s time to enjoy this podium moment. I will be honest and direct with the teams, but it’s such an important decision for me as well. I will take all the time necessary.” – the Ferrari driver continued.

Finally, a jab at Williams regarding the rumors from recent hours: “If there are teams that can’t wait or are a bit impatient, I can’t do anything about it. It will be my future, my decision. I will try to be as honest as possible with everyone and take the necessary time.” – Carlos Sainz concluded.
