David Croft gives verdict on Lewis Hamilton's chances of becoming world champion with Ferrari

The ‘Hamilton fever,’ which has understandably swept through all Ferrari fans since the seven-time champion first arrived in Maranello, is also present across the English Channel, in Great Britain. In his home country, Hamilton remains an undisputed idol, regardless of whether his suit bears the emblem of McLaren, Mercedes, or Ferrari.

From a journalistic perspective, however, even the British media are wondering whether the union between the most successful driver and the most successful team in F1 history will yield concrete results. An interesting analysis was provided by Sky Sports F1 commentator David Croft, who has long been the ‘voice’ of the Circus in the UK, during the Autosport Awards evening.

David Croft's prediction

Lewis Hamilton 's contract with Ferrari is for two years, with an option for a third. However, according to Croft, the best opportunity for him to win a title in red will already be this year: “I would say this could be Lewis's best chance to secure his eighth world title, as the season may not see teams bringing updates week after week,” the Sky UK journalist said.

In David Croft's view, the regulatory changes coming in 2026 could lead several teams to partially sacrifice the current season in terms of development. “I believe that among the four top teams, Ferrari will be the most eager to make the most of the 2025 season,” Croft suggested, “because it has been a long time since they last won anything, and they want to prove that Lewis is the right man, as well as Charles.”
