After participating in his final race with Ferrari at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the Scuderia has now shared a poignant video featuring Carlos Sainz delivering an emotional farewell message.
Following Ferrari’s announcement in February that Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time Formula 1 world champion, would be taking over from Carlos Sainz in 2025, speculation surrounding the Spaniard’s future began to mount. Rumors quickly circulated about potential moves to various teams, sparking widespread discussion throughout the paddock.
The speculation continued for several weeks, but in August, the situation came to a close when Williams officially confirmed that they had secured the services of the three-time F1 race winner. The Spanish driver was signed on a two-year contract with the Grove-based team, which includes options for further extension.
As part of the arrangement, Ferrari allowed Carlos Sainz to depart early, giving him the opportunity to experience the FW46 in a filming session at the 5.281-kilometre Yas Marina Circuit on Yas Island immediately after the final round of the 2024 Formula 1 campaign, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. This allowed him to get a first-hand look at the car before taking part in the Pirelli post-season tire test.
During his farewell message, the Spaniard took a moment to reflect on his time with Ferrari, sharing his thoughts on the future of the team. He expressed confidence that his former teammate, Charles Leclerc, could be a strong contender for the championship in the upcoming Formula 1 campaign. Carlos Sainz expressed his gratitude, stating that the four years he spent with Ferrari were unforgettable. He mentioned that during this time, Ferrari had given him the opportunity to win his first races, secure his first poles, and achieve his first podiums. The Spaniard also spoke highly of his teammate, Charles Leclerc, describing him as an exemplary teammate and reflecting on the incredible moments they had shared together. Carlos Sainz added that, should Leclerc wish, he could win the championship in the upcoming year.
