Two NASCAR teams put ballast in driver hydration systems

On Thursday, NASCAR found two violations during inspection ahead of The Duel races. They elected to eject two NASCAR Cup Series crew members as a result.

The No. 34 car fielded by Front Row Motorsports and driven by Todd Gilliland lost crew chief Chris Lawson for the weekend.

The No. 51 Rick Ware Racing machine driven by Cody Ware saw crew chief Billy Plourde ejected.

RWR and FRM both have an alliance with RFK Racing.

In both cases, this violation was for improper weights. And now we’re getting more details…

NASCAR reacts to the bold cheating

“We’ll address that this morning,” Elton Sawyer stated via SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

“It’s basically unapproved mounting of ballast. That one, I don’t have any real sympathy for them on.”

“They’re taking hydration systems that are for the driver, that are critical and putting ballast in it. Which is, that’s just not cool.”

NASCAR typically releases a weekly penalty report on Tuesday or Wednesday after an event.
