The Toyota Corolla has been recalled for the second time in a week for a fault with the Corolla’s skid-control software that could reduce the effectiveness of the brakes.

Toyota has recalled 38,072 examples of the 2022-2024 Toyota Corolla Hybrid hatch and sedan due to a software fault that may could reduce braking performance – days after an unrelated recall for a different part of the vehicle.

The recall notice – lodged with the Department of Infrastructure – says: "Due to a software issue in the skid control unit ECU [Electronic Control Unit], a higher pedal force may be required increasing the braking distance under certain driving conditions."

"A reduction in braking performance could increase the risk of an accident resulting in injury or death to vehicle occupants, and/or other road users."
