2025 BYD Sealion 6 price and specs: New base variant for Australia's cheapest new PHEV

The BYD Sealion 6 has become Australia’s cheapest plug-in hybrid electric vehicle with the introduction of a more-affordable Essential variant at $42,990 before on-road costs, replacing the existing Dynamic.

The BYD Sealion 6 family SUV has received a price reduction for 2025 with the introduction of a new variant, making it Australia's most-affordable new plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV).
BYD has announced an entry-level Sealion 6 Essential front-wheel drive variant for $42,990 before on-road costs – or around $44,250 to $45,500 drive-away, depending on the state and territory of purchase – undercutting the smaller and soon-to-be-discontinued $47,790 plus on-roads Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV ES.
The Essential replaces the Dynamic for Model Year 2025 – though Model Year 2024 examples of the Dynamic remain in stock in Australia for $45,990, down from $48,990, until sold out.
The Essential loses the Dynamic’s 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen for a smaller 12.8-inch unit, its 10-speaker Infinity audio system for an unbranded six-speaker system, its eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat for six-way movement, and its heated and ventilated front seats.
It also misses out on front parking sensors, a 360-degree camera system, a wireless phone charger, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, front door acoustic glass, metal door sill plates, multi-colour interior ambient lighting, and a PM2.5 air filtration system.
These features are now reserved for the Premium – along with its head-up display, mud and sand driving terrain modes, and optional blue/grey upholstery – which remains priced at $52,990.

For 2025, the Azure Blue exterior paint colour has been deleted across the Sealion 6 line-up, aligning with changes to the colour palettes of other BYD models, with the brand citing customer preferences based on existing sales data.
The top-of-the-range Sealion 6 Premium all-wheel-drive is now available with optional Michelin tyres to replace the standard-fit Giti items, according to a specification list published by BYD Australia.
Matching the outgoing Dynamic, the BYD Sealion 6 Essential features a 72kW/122Nm 1.5-litre non-turbo petrol engine and a 145kW/300Nm electric motor, with a 160kW and 300Nm combined output.

Stepping up to the Premium brings a 96kW/200Nm 1.5-litre turbo engine combined with a 150kW/300Nm front electric motor and a 120kW/250Nm rear electric motor, for a 238kW and 550Nm combined output.
Both variants have an 18.3kWh lithium-iron phosphate 'Blade' battery, with a 92-kilometre electric-only driving range from 100 to 25 per cent under the NEDC lab-test standard for the Essential and 81 kilometres for the Premium.
