Eddie Jordan harsh on John Elkann: "What was he thinking when he fired Carlos Sainz?"

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was Carlos Sainz’s last race in red, during which he gave his all to secure the Constructors’ Championship for Ferrari. Unfortunately, second place was not enough, but the driver still savored what might be the final podium of his career. The Spaniard will move to Williams in 2025, while his seat will be taken by Lewis Hamilton in the most talked-about move of the season.
Many eagerly await the seven-time champion’s debut in Maranello, but Eddie Jordan is not among them. The former team principal still cannot understand why the team chose to replace number 55. “What sane person would switch from Carlos Sainz to Lewis Hamilton? John Elkann must have had rocks in his head when he made that decision. I am close to Carlos Sr, and I went to see him after the race. When I congratulated him on his son’s performance, he was crying. And like him, so were Carlos Sainz Jr and many members of Ferrari. He didn't understand why he was let go, and neither do I,” said the Irishman on the Formula For Success podcast.
A possible response came from David Coulthard, co-host of the podcast, who highlighted the media and commercial aspects of the deal: “What likely drove the decision is the appeal of a seven-time world champion, the most successful driver in terms of wins and poles. On the day of the announcement, Ferrari’s stock value increased. Of course, if Maranello provides him with a competitive car, they would also provide one to Leclerc, who is undoubtedly fast. Managing them won’t be easy. But at the same time, I’m always amazed by Lewis Hamilton’s race pace. How did he climb from 16th position and overtake George in Abu Dhabi?”
