The 2025 Formula 1 championship has witnessed a significant reshuffling of experienced drivers, with several established names making way for a wave of fresh talent eager to make their mark in the sport.

Valtteri Bottas has shifted roles to become Mercedes’ reserve driver, while Kevin Magnussen will transition to racing sports cars, and Zhou Guanyu's future remains uncertain after the confirmation of the 2025 grid's 20 drivers. It is common for rookies to start their careers with teams at the back of the grid, offering them a chance to learn and grow.

However, both Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Liam Lawson will embark on the 2025 Formula 1 season with teams that, while not at the very top, possess the potential to challenge for podiums, including at the Australian Grand Prix.

Toto Wolff, Mercedes' team principal, has been cautious in managing expectations for Antonelli as he steps into Formula 1. Nevertheless, Wolff may privately harbor hopes that Antonelli could deliver an unexpected result at Albert Park.

Alongside Antonelli and Lawson, a group of promising rookies will also join the grid, including Ferrari junior Oliver Bearman, Jack Doohan, Isack Hadjar, and Gabriel Bortoleto. They will all take part in the pre-season testing in Bahrain next month.

In an ordinary year, the Formula 2 champion would attract considerable attention upon arrival in Formula 1, with drivers like Theo Pourchaire and Felipe Drugovich acknowledging the immense challenge simply to secure a race seat. Yet, Gabriel Bortoleto's move to Sauber has garnered less attention, particularly outside of Brazil. Bortoleto's recent remarks upon arriving at the Sauber factory have raised eyebrows, with many speculating that he might be destined for a future at Ferrari.

Fans have been quick to connect Gabriel Bortoleto’s apparent affinity for Ferrari to his recent comments. When asked about his favorite F1 circuit, he named Imola and confessed that Piratelli was his favorite corner. Then, when asked about his favorite color, his response was immediate: 'Red.' This combination led fans to suggest that Bortoleto might be positioning himself as a future Ferrari driver.

One fan remarked, “Red, Imola, Italian surname… Ferrari is your destiny!” Another said, "Ferrari!" with excitement. Other fans echoed similar thoughts, with one suggesting, "Gabi digging for a place at Ferrari," while another added, "Gabi already pitching to Ferrari!" One Gabriel Bortoleto supporter even noted, "The homie likes red like Ferrari?" and another claimed, "But in between the lines, he said Ferrari is the goal."

Gabriel Bortoleto's rise to Formula 1 has been impressive, but it's flown under the radar for many. Winning back-to-back titles in both Formula 3 and Formula 2 is an extraordinary achievement and often signals a strong future in F1.

Drivers such as George Russell, Charles Leclerc, and Oscar Piastri, who followed similar paths, have all gone on to achieve success, with Leclerc starting at Sauber before joining Ferrari, and Russell spending three years at Williams before moving to Mercedes.

Gabriel Bortoleto may face challenges similar to those of Leclerc and Russell, as Sauber is expected to once again finish at the bottom of the Constructors' Championship. However, Bortoleto's focus will be on getting as close as possible to his experienced teammate, Nico Hulkenberg, and using the consistency that won him the F2 title last year to prove his ability in Formula 1.

Fernando Alonso, a seasoned figure in the sport, has expressed his belief that Gabriel Bortoleto has the potential to succeed. However, Gabriel Bortoleto's success may depend on Audi's impending takeover of Sauber, which could provide the team with the necessary resources to become more competitive.
