Tomac: “Farò tutto il possibile per tornare in pista a Detroit”.
Il comunicato stampa di Yamaha di domenica ha delineato alcuni dettagli aggiuntivi sulla situazione di Eli Tomac dal Tampa Supercross. Ecco le note di Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing, che si è classificato secondo con Cooper Webb, quarto con Justin Cooper e 17° con Tomac.

“È stata una giornata dura a Tampa. Ho preso la gamba sotto la pedana durante un salto durante le qualifiche e mi sono slogato la parte superiore della caviglia e mi sono fatto un livido alla parte inferiore della gamba. Farò tutto il possibile per tornare in pista a Detroit”.

"Inizierò con l’elefante nella stanza: è stata una serata sfortunata per Eli. È stato solo un incidente bizzarro con il piede incastrato tra la pedana e il terreno durante le qualifiche. Era davvero dolorante e contuso, ma ha fatto del suo meglio per gestire una serata a punti. D’altra parte, è stata una grande serata per Webb. Non ha avuto una grande partenza nell’evento principale, ma ha guidato molto bene per farsi strada nel gruppo per ottenere il secondo posto e dimezzare il distacco per il campionato: è arrivato 10 volte indietro e ne lascia cinque. Poi per Justin Cooper, è stata una grande svolta per la sua fiducia. Ha continuato a guidare bene per tutto il giorno e ha continuato a costruire su questo. Ha avuto una buona partenza nella manche ed è arrivato terzo, e un’altra buona partenza nella finale, e in un certo senso è rimasto in mezzo. Guidare con quei ragazzi sta aumentando la sua fiducia. “Nel complesso, è stata una buona giornata. Sono riuscito a qualificarmi secondo, ho vinto la gara di qualificazione e sono arrivato secondo nella gara principale. Ho solo commesso un errore alla partenza, ho fatto girare un po’ le ruote e sono stato seppellito. Ho fatto una buona carica attraverso il gruppo e ho superato gli altri. Sono solo un po’ deluso perché mi sentivo come se stessi arrivando con Malcolm (Stewart), e poi ho commesso alcuni errori, ho perso la scia e i doppiati hanno in qualche modo interferito. Nel complesso, è stata una buona serata a punti e un buon secondo posto. Prenderemo i punti, miglioreremo e andremo a Detroit.”
Justin Cooper – Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing #32
"Ho avuto tre partenze davvero pessime lo scorso weekend a Glendale, quindi averne fatte due davvero buone è la cosa più positiva per me. So di essere un buon partente, quindi riprendermi e farlo due volte stasera è stato importante per me. Mi ha messo in una buona posizione per tutta la notte. Ero terzo nella manche di qualificazione e sono riuscito a superare Chase (Sexton) nell’ultimo rettilineo per finire quarto nella finale. Quindi è stata una buona serata per me perché ho caricato fino alla fine e sono rimasto forte. Continueremo a lavorare e a costruire per Detroit."

Tomac: “I'm going to do everything possible to get back on the line in Detroit."
Yamaha’s press release on Sunday outlined a few additional details on Eli Tomac’s situation from the Tampa Supercross. Here are the notes from Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing, which took second with Cooper Webb, fourth with Justin Cooper and 17th with Tomac.

"It was a tough day in Tampa. I caught my leg underneath the foot peg on a jump during qualifying, and sprained the top of my ankle and bruised my lower leg. I'm going to do everything possible to get back on the line in Detroit."
Rich Simmons – Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing 450 Team Manager
"I'll start with the elephant in the room – it was an unfortunate night for Eli. It was just a freak accident with him getting his foot caught between the foot peg and the ground during qualifying. He was really sore and bruised, but he did the best he could to manage a points night. On the other hand, it was a great night for Webb. He didn't get a great start in the main event, but he rode really well to work his way through the pack to get second place and cut the gap in half for the championship – he came in 10 down and leaves five down. Then for Justin Cooper, it was a big turnaround for him confidence-wise. He continued to ride well through the day and build on that. He got a good start in the heat and was third, and another good start in the main, and just kind of stayed in the mix. Riding with those guys is building confidence for him. So, there are definitely some positives on an up-and-down night, and we’ll move on to Detroit."
Cooper Webb – Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing #2
"Overall, it was a good day. I was able to qualify second, won the heat race, and finished second in the main. I just made a mistake on the start, got some wheel spin, and was buried. I made a good charge through the pack and was picking guys off. I'm just a little bit bummed because I felt like I was coming through with Malcolm (Stewart), and then I was making some mistakes, lost the tow, and the lappers kind of interfered. Overall, it was a good points night and a good second-place finish. We'll take the points, get better, and move on to Detroit."
Justin Cooper – Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing #32
"I had three really bad starts last weekend in Glendale, so to have two really good starts is the biggest positive for me. I know I'm a good starter, so to get that back and do it twice tonight was important to me. It put me in a good position all night. I was third in the heat race, and I was able to get Chase (Sexton) on the last straight away to finish fourth in the main. So it was a good night for me because I charged to the end and stayed strong. We'll keep working and keep building for Detroit."
