Months after customer deliveries commenced in Australia, the Model Y-sized XPeng G6 has been given a facelift in China with revised styling and new features.

The 2025 XPeng G6 electric SUV has been updated in China with revised styling, new technology and promises of improved fit and finish, ahead of an expected eventual Australian arrival.

The refreshed mid-size G6 was unveiled in XPeng’s home market ahead of the first customer deliveries this month, with some details – such as price changes – yet to be announced.

Australian plans are yet to be confirmed. One possibility is a launch to coincide with the previously-scheduled arrival of a G6 Performance all-wheel drive version in the second half of this year.

The larger Toyota Kluger-sized XPeng G9 SUV and X9 seven-seat people mover are also destined for Australian showrooms in the next 18 months through local importer TrueEV.

Exterior changes include a new, full-width ‘galaxy light wing’ front LED strip, which moves the XPeng badge to the bonnet – replacing the current look where the XPeng logo splits the light band in two pieces.

There are new alloy wheel designs and paint colours, plus a new ducktail-like rear spoiler integrated into the tailgate below the window, and changes to the rear bumper.

The G6’s core dimensions are unchanged – nearly identical to the Tesla Model Y in length and width, with a taller roofline – but XPeng says it has worked to improve fit and finish, claiming a reduction in panel gaps.

Inside, there is a slightly-larger 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen – up from 14.9 inches – alongside a freestanding 10.25-inch digital instrument display, and a restyled dashboard.

Xpeng says there are new colours and soft-touch materials – including more leather and woodgrain – for the cabin.

New front seats are also fitted, with heating and ventilation functions.

There is said to be new artificial-intelligence (AI) integration, promising more advanced semi-autonomous driving features. It’s unclear if the new model retains the lidar sensors of its predecessor.

The entry-level lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery is believed to have increased in capacity from 66kWh to 68.5kWh, while the flagship nickel cobalt manganese (NCM) pack has reduced from 87.5kWh to 80.8kWh.

Chinese reports claim driving range in local CLTC lab testing has increased by 45km to 625km for the base battery, but dropped by 25km to 725km for the larger pack.

Under more stringent WLTP testing, the current Standard Range and Long Range variants quote 435km and 570km respectively.

The rear-mounted electric motor is rated at 218kW in Chinese models, compared to 190kW or 210kW in current Australian models. The previous 358kW dual-motor, all-wheel-drive version is yet to return to the Chinese range.

The G6 remains XPeng’s only model on sale in Australia for now – starting from $54,800 before on-road costs – with a recent 10-year warranty offer extended until 30 June 2025.
