Charles Leclerc not giving up on F1 Drivers' title: "I will believe until the end"

The checkered flag in the 2024 Formula 1 United States Grand Prix at the Austin circuit marks Ferrari’s strong return to the battle for the Constructors’ Championship. However, there are two championship standings, and after his victory at the 5.513-kilometre Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Charles Leclerc can still hold onto a small hope for the Drivers’ Championship.

In the post-race press conference, Ferrari is in the spotlight. Both drivers, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, are smiling and fueling the Scuderia's optimism after their dominant weekend in Austin. The points haul from the Texas race allows Ferrari to re-enter the championship fight with force: the Constructors’ title seems achievable, while the Drivers’ Championship for Leclerc appears more complicated but not impossible.

“Never say never,” explained the Monegasque driver to the journalists. The dream of triumphing over Max Verstappen and Lando Norris is not entirely out of reach, though the chances are certainly slim. “If we do everything perfectly until the end of the season, we can win the Constructors’ Championship. It doesn't matter what McLaren does; if we do better than them, we can win it.” – the Monegasque driver pointed out at the end of the United States Grand Prix.

“As for the Drivers’ Championship, I see a slightly different situation,” Charles Leclerc explained. “Even if we do everything perfectly, I feel we would need a bit of luck to try and win that title. And we can't rely on luck.”

For Ferrari’s Monegasque driver, the chances of winning the Drivers’ Championship are slim: “Winning it seems a bit unlikely,” Charles Leclerc continued, without giving up entirely. “But I will believe in it until it's mathematically impossible, though it is more complicated.”
