The non-hybrid Mitsubishi Outlander has received an update following the revised PHEV unveiled in late 2024, with Australian arrivals expected between July and September.

A facelift for the 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander five- and seven-seat family SUV has expanded to the petrol-only model after the updated Outlander PHEV debuted almost six months ago.

Revisions for the standard Mitsubishi Outlander mirror those applied to the Outlander PHEV, with a larger 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen similar to its Nissan X-Trail twin-under-the-skin – up from eight and nine inches – along with an available Yamaha audio system and ventilated front seats.

In the United States, the 12-speaker ‘Yamaha Dynamic Sound’ system has been made standard across the Outlander range, replacing the six-speaker unbranded system for entry-level variants and the 10-speaker Bose system for range-topping grades.

Australian showroom arrivals for the updated Outlander and Outlander PHEV are expected in the third quarter of the year (July to September inclusive).

It also receives tweaked front and rear bumpers, a revised grille pattern, clear tail-light elements, a new 20-inch alloy wheel design, and a new Moonstone Grey exterior paint colour.

More sound-deadening material has been applied for less road noise and a six-decibel improvement in overall sound isolation, while additional USB-C charge ports replace USB-A connections.

The centre console has been revised with relocated front cupholders, a “more functional” wireless phone charger, and a larger armrest and storage area.

Flagship variants add brown leather upholstery with a new quilted pattern, replacing the black and tan finish seen on today’s model, including the top-of-the-range Outlander Exceed Tourer sold in Australia.

Mitsubishi has not announced any changes to the active safety features of the non-hybrid Outlander – however the Outlander PHEV revealed for Europe adds a driver-facing camera to monitor their attention to the road, a feature first seen and since revised in the Triton ute, after the technology was mandated there in mid-2024.

Petrol models continue to feature a 135kW/244Nm 2.5-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine matched to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) automatic.

The updated Outlander PHEV – revealed for Europe and Japan in October 2024 – has received a larger 22.7kWh lithium-ion battery pack (up from 20kWh) for a longer electric-only driving range.

It’s now rated to travel 86 kilometres on the more-stringent European WLTP lab-test standard compared to 84 kilometres on the lenient NEDC standard for the outgoing model.

There are no changes to the Outlander PHEV’s 100kW/203Nm 2.4-litre petrol engine, 85kW/255Nm front electric motor, and 100kW/195Nm rear electric motor.

The Mitsubishi Outlander was the brand’s best-selling vehicle in Australia in 2024 – and the nation’s second-favourite SUV behind the Toyota RAV4 – with 27,613 deliveries, ahead of the Triton (18,077), ASX (12,300), Eclipse Cross (9221) and Pajero Sport (7306).

Australian details on the 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander and 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV – including pricing and specifications – will be confirmed closer to its launch, expected between July and September.
