New Jaguar electric car spied testing after divisive concept

Hiding under the zebra-striped wrap is the showroom-bound version of Jaguar’s first new-era car, following its controversial rebrand.
The first of a new generation of Jaguar electric cars has been spied testing in the northern hemisphere winter ahead of a global reveal later this year.
Based on the Jaguar Type 00 concept revealed in December, the new road-going Jaguar will be the first vehicle spawned by an unprecedented rebrand for the previously-staunch British car maker as it pushes into higher price territory.
The spy images show the two-door concept will morph into a four-door for showrooms, as a rival to the Porsche Taycan electric sedan epected to start at $200,000 before on-road costs, on a new JEA electric-car platform.
The same high-waisted proportions – a bluff nose with narrow headlights, long bonnet and sweeping roofline leading to a liftback-style rear – carry on from the concept car.

Look closely and you'll also spot the wild rear pillars off the shoulders towards the rear of the car, where cameras are used instead of a rear windscreen like the Polestar 4 launched in Australia in 2024.
Jaguar has indicated the showroom model will offer up to 770km of claimed driving range in European WLTP testing, and a power output of more than 441kW.
The charging point is shown on the front driver's side of the right-hand-drive test car, with a large rectangular panel above the 21-inch Pirelli-shod alloy wheels – smaller than the concept's 23-inch alloys – showing off large brakes.
Testing equipment are visible on the British-registered vehicle despite the snow and ice covering its number plates.
It confirms the Type 00 concept was not all smoke and mirrors, and gives an indication of what will soon be in Jaguar showrooms as the 91-year-old brand remakes itself as an electric rival to high-end brands including Bentley, Aston Martin and Porsche.
Jaguar showed its new branding in November 2024 to much controversy, with both praise and dismissive criticism as its first steps taking the public on its journey to a fresh identity.
The rebrand even took some Jaguar staff by surprise, according to some reports, with members of its in-house design team writing to design boss Gerry McGovern to express their disappointment in not being consulted.

With higher-priced, lower-volume models aimed at capturing buyers of its more exclusive, expensive rivals, Jaguar has already ended production of nearly every car it makes as it reorganises its entire business ahead of its more expensive new models.
F-Pace production continues in 2025, but the last E-Pace was built in 2024 while the last batch of F-Type sports cars to reach showrooms included the ZP Edition with a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine.
Jaguar Australia told Drive it will have stock in Australian showrooms for all of 2025, most notably with F-Pace still being built, after just 40 cars were reported as sold by the company locally in January 2025.
