Renault is among the car brands that fly engineers to Australia to test new models before they go on sale, as the updated Captur completes three months of local validation before its late-2025 launch.
The facelifted 2025 Renault Captur city SUV has completed three months of validation testing in Australia ahead of its local launch in the second half of 2025.
Renault Australia said a team of 11 engineers from Europe conducted 11,000 kilometres of local testing in a facelifted Captur on city, suburban and rural roads in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory to assess its driver assistance technologies.
It included validation of its driver attention monitoring, lane-keep assist, and traffic sign recognition systems – which, globally, have received updates in the latest Captur – in Australian road conditions.
It has been confirmed the Captur will gain Renault’s latest Android-based OpenR Link infotainment system – on a larger 10.4-inch portrait touchscreen (up from 9.3 inches) – and will be its first model in Australia with embedded Google apps.
A built-in data SIM will be included to support Google Maps with real-time traffic information and over-the-air map updates, and the Google Assistant voice control.
Last month, Renault Australia general manager Glen Sealey said the importer has been receiving “constant enquiries” about the Captur after the outgoing model sold out in late 2024, with the nameplate currently on hiatus until the updated version arrives in local showrooms.

“[The] Renault Captur has historically been one of the most popular models in our Australian lineup and dealers have been receiving constant enquiries from buyers asking when the new model is due here, after we sold out of the previous model late last year," Sealey said.
"[The] MY25 Renault Captur is just one of a number of new and updated Renault models around the corner for Renault Australia and we will have more to share on those soon."
The updated Renault Captur, which debuted in Europe in April 2024, will form the basis for the next Mitsubishi ASX for Australia, also due in local Mitsubishi showrooms in the second half of 2025.

Revisions for the updated Captur include updated exterior styling, a new Esprit Alpine flagship variant replacing the outgoing RS Line, an optional nine-speaker Harman/Kardon audio system, and “grained cover material” instead of leather upholstery.
The Renault Captur is expected to retain its current 113kW/270Nm 1.3-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder matched to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission in Australia, while mild-hybrid, hybrid and plug-in hybrid models are available in Europe.
More Australian details on the 2025 Renault Captur – including pricing and specifications – will be announced closer to its launch.
