Hyundai teamed up with a Canadian television show to restore a million-kilometre Elantra, with the car won by a young man.

A 2008 Hyundai Elantra with one million kilometres on the odometer has been given a new lease on life, thanks to a television show.

Purchased from a Canadian dealership by delivery driver Jocelyn Roy in 2011, Roy clocked up an average of 107,000 kilometres per year in the Elantra, eventually trading it in for a Kona – before the vehicle was purchased by Hyundai Canada.

“I have always taken great care of my vehicles. When you drive as much as I do, you don't really have a choice. You want to protect your investment,” Roy said in 2020.

“Even with proper maintenance, I expected the vehicle to need some major work or rebuild at some point – but it's never needed it.”

According to Carscoops, Hyundai Canada recently teamed up with Quebec television show Roulez au Suivant, donating more than 100 parts for the restoration.

The Elantra received a full respray in Hyundai N’s trademark Performance Blue – often seen on models like the i30 N and Ioniq 5 N.

The vehicle also received a subtle body-kit in black with red highlights.

Along with the exterior transformation, the Elantra got a newly built engine, with the odometer reset back to zero.

Once completed, the television show gave away the Hyundai as a prize to 16-year-old Quebec local Éloïc Lachance.

While Lachance had applied to win the Elantra for his first car, his mother and brother also secretly applied for the competition on his behalf.
